The Chain Link
Whether you have been two-wheel shredding on 60 degree winter days or are just dusting off the bikes to prepare for spring, we’re happy you’re here!
A Note from the Board
Did you hear the news? Rapid City has been recognized as a 2026 IMBA Trail Town!
This national designation recognizes communities that value trails and the people who ride them. Trails are an important part of what makes the Black Hills such a great place to live, work, and play. We are grateful for our partnership and sponsors that support us in our mission and trail work.
IMBA Trail Towns demonstrate strong trail infrastructure, a commitment to trail funding, an active local trail organization, a culture of community engagement, and a sustainable trail stewardship plan. Your support helps strengthen our trails and our town – thank you!

Trail Master Plan
It’s finalized! We just wrapped up the Trails Master Plan with Rock Solid and are just starting to roll out the plan to our land managing partners. We’ll share a first look and overview of the plan at our upcoming Bevs with the Board in April. We want to hear from our membership to help prioritize which recommendations we should work towards first. Stay tuned for more information and opportunities to support!
Vision Fund Bike Park
A few of our dedicated volunteers continue to work with Parks and Rec Staff to ensure the project continues forward and that the design meets the needs of the community and our members. Currently we are working through design with Parks and Rec and PumpTraxx USA. We are excited to see the build start this Summer. The project is scheduled to complete this Fall.
Maintenance Mondays
We’re back at it again this year! We’ll have a mix of Mondays and Sundays, as daylight wanes. Sunday afternoons give us a chance to spend a little more time and get into the fun stuff like dirt and rock work! We will be spending most of the summer working at HLMP, with some side quests to our other favorite local trails as needed. We will continue to support HLMP, Skyline Wilderness Area, and Raider Park to help keep those trails running smooth!
Forest Service
This winter, we have been working with Black Hills Trails and staff at USFS Mystic Ranger District to lay the foundation for BHBH members to complete authorized trail work within several Forest Service trail systems. Our own Wes Hanson and Emily Berry will be leading this initiative, so reach out to them if you would like to get involved and reach our goals of 150 hours of work!
We have a lot more exciting things happening, plan to join us at a Trail Committee meeting or Bev’s with the Board to hear more about other initiatives like our Adopt-a-Trail Program, All American Trail Expansion and more!
Youth
We’re going all in on our youth programming this summer, and we invite you along for the ride!
Beginning Thursday, April 30th at 5:30 p.m., we will be having weekly group rides for riders aged 18 and under who have experience on single-track trails. We'll have leveled groups to accommodate a wide range of riders, from those just getting comfortable with single track experiences to those interested in training to race. The rider should be able to navigate the Fulton Skyline switchbacks with three to five brakes to the second parking lot. If you have a rider who you believe should be in this group but are unsure, please reach out. These rides will be structured to help improve your riders’ abilities and include a dedicated warm-up, skill work, and riding stamina exercises.
We're still looking for volunteers to coach our youth rides! Youth ride coaches will take students on single track trails and provide encouragement and guidance while ensuring safety. Coaches can pre-sign up for the practices they are available for throughout the summer, you don't need to be available every week. Interested coaches can sign up at Bevs with the Board or contact abbie@blackhillsbikehub.org.
Our Family Day events will be perfect for families with younger riders who are still at an entry level on singletrack. Our first Family Day is scheduled for Sunday, May 10 from 11am to 1pm at Raider Park.
